Cookie Policy
Last updated:
This Cookie Policy explains how the OmniStudy website at https://www.omnistudyai.com uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. OmniStudy is operated by Suvedita Ambashtha. The OmniStudy Android app does not use browser cookies; the data it keeps on your phone is described in our Privacy Policy (https://www.omnistudyai.com/legal/privacy), which you should read together with this policy.
2. How we ask for your consent
- Strictly necessary cookies are always on, because the website cannot work without them.
- In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, and whenever we cannot tell which rules apply, every other category stays off until you choose “Accept all” or switch it on under “Customize”. Choosing “Essential only” or closing the banner keeps them off.
- Elsewhere, analytics, ad-measurement and functional cookies are on by default, and you can turn them off at any time.
- We decide which rules apply from your device’s time-zone setting, not from your location.
- You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie preferences” in the website footer. When you turn a category off, we stop the tools in it and delete the cookies they set.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
- Firebase Authentication (Google), stored in IndexedDB: keeps you signed in. Kept until you sign out.
- omni_cookie_consent_v1 (local storage): remembers your cookie choices. Kept until you clear your browser data.
- omni_theme_preference (local storage): remembers light or dark mode. Kept until you clear your browser data.
- omni_notif_*, omni_onboarding_v1 and omni_last_level_v1 (local storage): remember which notifications and checklist items you dismissed. Kept until you clear your browser data.
- omni:liveclass:notes-draft-html (local storage): keeps the notes you are writing during a live class, so they are not lost if the page reloads.
- Free-tool limits: when you use a free tool without an account, the open-source FingerprintJS library computes an identifier from your browser’s characteristics, on your device. We send it and your IP address to our server, which stores only scrambled (hashed) copies, to stop the free tools being overused. They are deleted automatically within about 40 days.
- Dodo Payments: cookies set on the checkout page to process your payment securely and prevent fraud, under Dodo Payments’ own policy.
4. Analytics and ad-measurement cookies (optional)
These appear as “Analytics & ad measurement” in Cookie preferences, and one switch controls both of the tools below.
PostHog (PostHog, Inc., United States)
- Cookie ph_*_posthog (first-party): recognises your browser between visits. Lasts up to 1 year.
- Measures page views, where visitors come from, and which features are used, and records session replays: a reconstruction of your clicks, scrolling and the pages you view. Everything you type into form fields is masked before it leaves your browser, so passwords and the text of your prompts and notes are never recorded.
- Analytics data and replays are kept for up to 12 months.
Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. and Meta Platforms, Inc.)
- Cookies _fbp and _fbc (first-party, 90 days). _fbc is set only when you arrive by clicking one of our ads on Facebook or Instagram.
- Tells Meta which pages of our website you visit and whether you created an account, so that we can measure whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram work and show them to people likely to find OmniStudy useful.
- Meta may link this data to your Facebook or Instagram account and also uses it under its own privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy
- You can also manage the ads Meta shows you at https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences
5. Functional cookies (optional)
- Live-class cache (IndexedDB: live_class_media_* and live_class_audio_*): stores the slides and audio of lessons you generate, so a lesson you reopen loads instantly. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us. Kept until you clear your browser data. Turning it off only makes lessons load more slowly when you reopen them.
6. Other ways to control cookies
- Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and site data in their settings. If you block strictly necessary storage, you will not be able to sign in.
- Clearing your site data also clears your cookie choice, so the banner will ask you again.
- We do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals; use Cookie preferences instead.
7. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when we add or remove a cookie or tool. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version. If we add a new optional category, we will ask for your choice again.
